NORA knives is a manufacturer of various kitchen knives and we specialize in small batch production runs and custom orders. My name is Danielle and my husband's name is Steven. We are the owners of NORA knives. We are a young family, doing our best to raise two toddler boys and living in a small house in Southern California.

Steve has always loved knives and cooking. His fascination with knives started with collecting, then grew to sharpening, and eventually he started making the knives himself.

When Steve began tinkering with making kitchen knives my only request was that they were functional but elegant at the same time.  I wanted to put them on display and honor them. A kitchen knife is one of the single most important tools in most household kitchens and they deserve to be cherished and loved as opposed to shoved in a drawer. 

From that want, NORA was born. We work together to design and create knives that look as beautiful as they work. We try to create knives that you will keep for years upon years, something that can be handed down as a heirloom.

Steve traded in his position in engineering for a small, dusty home workshop where he does all the down-and-dirty work involved in physically making our knives.  I help with the handle designs, the marketing and the bookkeeping.  

The name "NORA" is a nod to my Oklahoma born grandmother. We always wanted a daughter and we had planned to name her Nora. This was not in the cards for us, however, so our business became our third figurative "baby."  One of the finest women I have ever had the pleasure of knowing; Nora was graceful but hardy, simple but skilled. She embodies everything we want our knives to be.
